National Curriculum  - Purpose of Study
'Mathematics is a creative and highly inter-connected discipline that has been developed over centuries, providing the solution to some of history’s most intriguing problems. It is essential to everyday life, critical to science, technology and engineering, and necessary for financial literacy and most forms of employment. A high-quality mathematics education therefore provides a foundation for understanding the world, the ability to reason mathematically, an appreciation of the beauty and power of mathematics, and a sense of enjoyment and curiosity about the subject'.
 
At Bury we teach maths using the following programs :-
  • Mastering Number (EYFS & KS1)
  • Maths No Problem (Government Approved Scheme)
  • Iseemaths reasoning and Iseemaths problem solving (KS1 & KS2)
Mastering Number with NCETM (National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Maths)
 
The Mastering Number program aims to secure firm foundations in the development of good number sense for all children from Reception through to Year 1 and Year 2. The aim over time is that children will leave KS1 with fluency in calculation and a confidence and flexibility with number. Attention will be given to key knowledge and understanding needed in Reception classes, and progression through KS1 to support success in the future.
